Two Nigerian soldiers have been killed with four others injured after militants of Boko Haram sect attacked a community in Askira Uba local government area of Borno State on Wednesday, two local sources said.
Sahara Reporters quoted a source as saying that the Islamist militants stormed the remote village of Huyim village about 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23.
“They looted and carted away foodstuff and then burned down the whole village,” said the source.
The affected community is located some 18 miles away from Uba town, the local government headquarters.
Another source, who is a local hunter, said that the vigilantes in the attacked community sent an urgent request for troops to assist in repelling the attack.
However, while coming to their aid, the troops’ vehicle rolled on landmines planted by the militants.
“The attackers came on motorcycles and opened fire. They looted farms products and took away livestock. We called the troops for assistance,” said one of the sources.
He added, “Unfortunately, the troops’ vehicle drove over landmines. The mines killed two soldiers and four other soldiers sustained degrees of injuries.”
